Visit the sprawling palaces and temples of the Forbidden City where 24 dynasties of Chinese emperors lived.  Enjoy an unforgettable gastronomic experience – a famous Peking Duck dinner.  Visit the Dujiangyan Dam, an engineering marvel built in 250 B.C. that has irrigated the western Sichuan plain and helped avoid floods for 2,000 years.

Sail along the Yangtze River, through picturesque gorges and past the massive construction site of the Three Gorges Dam.  In Shanghai, explore Yu Yuan Garden, the famous Shanghai Museum, and the Children’s Palace, and enjoy an acrobat show.  Conclude your adventure in Hong Kong, visiting Repulse Bay and the famous fishing village of Aberdeen with its floating restaurants, junks, sampans, and boat people.  Finish your trip with a memorable tram ride to Victoria Peak for an unforgettable view of the harbor.

DAY 1, ATLANTA/BEIJING

We depart Atlanta and fly to Washington where we board our transpacific jet for the journey to Beijing.(meals aloft)

DAY 2, BEIJING

We arrive in Beijing, heart and capital of today’s China. After arrival, we transfer to the Marco Polo or Swissotel for overnight. (meal aloft)

DAY 3, BEIJING

An excursion out of Beijing takes us to see the Great Wall of China. The Wall runs 3,852 miles across the northern part of China and has been in existence for more than 2,000 years. You have to climb the Great Wall and make those memorable pictures! We also visit the Forbidden City (where 24 dynasties of Chinese emperors lived), with its impressive palaces and temples (9000 rooms) with displays of jade, jewelry and works of art. In the evening we are in for an unforgettable gastronomical experience – the famous Peking Duck dinner, one of the tastiest and most unique gourmet dishes in the world! (B,L,D)

DAY 4, BEIJING/CHENGDU

Today we transfer to the airport for our flight to Chengdu, the capital of China’s most populous province, Sichuan, and an important industrial city in southwestern China. On arrival, we transfer to the Jinjang Hotel. (B,L,D)

DAY 5, CHENGDU

We have a full day touring the Shanxingdui Museum and the Panda Reserve, where scientists have established a successful breeding program for the Giant Panda. We have time to walk the trails and observe the pandas in their natural habitat. (B,L)

DAY 6, CHENGDU

Today we visit the Dujiangyan Dam, an engineering marvel built in 250 B.C. It has irrigated the western Sichuan plain as well as avoiding floods for 2,000 years. This area is the most fertile land in China thanks greatly to this water system. We continue to the Leshan Giant Buddha which sits at the confluence of Min, Qinyi and Dadu rivers. It was built between 713 A.D. – 803 A.D. and is the largest Buddha in the world. Its giant foot has a room capacity for over a hundred seated men. (B,L)

Tian’anmen SquareDAY 7, CHENGDU/CHONGQING/YANGTZE CRUISE

Today we travel to Chongqing, where we have a panoramic city tour, seeing the covered outdoor marketplaces, juice stands and black-tiled wooden houses built along winding pathways – all which combine to give this city the flavor of a Chinatown in Southeast Asia. We enjoy dinner here prior to boarding our deluxe Victoria China Cruiser. (B,L,D)

DAY 8, YANGTZE CRUISE

The highlight of our tour begins as we depart Chongqing in the morning. We enjoy the beautiful scenery of the river banks as we cruise down leisurely along the Yangtze River. Our first shore excursion takes us to Fengdu, known as “The Ghost City,” and renowned for its ancient temples where statues of wild demon images and various torture instruments are on display. DAY 9, YANGTZE CRUISE

In the early morning we will sail through the first of the Three Gorges, the magnificent Qutang Gorge with its imposing vistas of caverns, pillars and pathways. Later we will enter Wu Gorge with its immortal Twelve Peaks before arriving at Badong. We will be taken on a shore excursion to Shennong stream where we will sail through lush pine gorges and translucent water. We enjoy spectacular sights like ancient plank roads, ancient cave coffins, and rare animals. We return to our boat and continue our cruise to Sandouping, the construction site of the Three Gorges Dam. (B,L,D)

DAY 10, MAOPING/WUHAN

We disembark at Maoping and transfer to Wuhan, the capital of Hubei Province, for dinner and overnight at the Tianan Holiday Inn. (B,L,D)

DAY 11, WUHAN/SHANGHAI

This morning we transfer to the airport for our flight to Shanghai, the fifth largest city in the world, and one of China’s most cosmopolitan areas. Our accommodation here is the J. C. Mandarin Hotel. (B,L)

DAY 12, SHANGHAI

Our full-day tour includes Yu Garden in its picture post-card setting, the fabulous Bund with its wide tree-lined boulevard, the famous Shanghai Museum and the Children’s Palace. This evening after dinner at the hotel we will enjoy an acrobatic show. (B,L,D)

DAY 13, SHANGHAI/HONG KONG

We transfer to the airport for our flight to Hong Kong. After arrival we are transferred to the Regal Kowloon Hotel for overnight. (B)

DAY 14, HONG KONG

This morning we will enjoy an organized tour to see Hong Kong, visit Repulse Bay and the famous fishing village of Aberdeen with its floating restaurants, junks, sampans and boat people. We will take a unique cog train ride up to the top of Victoria Peak for a breathless view of the world’s most spectacular harbor. The balance of the day is at leisure for exploring on our own. (B)

DAY 15, HONG KONG

This day is yours — you will have time today to shop in this world bargain center; designer clothing, jewelry, imported watches, radios, television sets and computers are all available at discount prices. Let the renowned tailors of Hong Kong make you a stylish dress, suit, shirt, etc.; sightsee on your own. (B)

DAY 16, HONG KONG/NARITA

Today we transfer to the airport for our flight to Narita (Tokyo). We are transferred to the ANA Hotel for our overnight. (B)

DAY 17, NARITA/ATLANTA

Today our fabulous trip comes to a close. We re-cross the international date line, turn the calendar back and arrive in Atlanta on the same day. (B, meals aloft)
